This article goes over the dangers of raccoons. We all know raccoons are wild animals and there are many dangers with raccoons. In my opinion the biggest danger of raccoon removal and having raccoons in the attic is actually the raccoon poop you may encounter. You would think that raccoons are dangerous because they can carry rabies, can scratch you or viciously bite you, but in my opinion that’s not necessarily the biggest concern. I will talk about the other dangers of raccoons in just a little bit. First as you can imagine, raccoons have many different zoetic diseases these zoetic diseases can be transferred to humans. Raccoon poop can have leptospirosis, hantavirus, histoplasmosis, and raccoon roundworm. Raccoons can be extremely dangerous. If you think you're having an issue with raccoons in your attic you should contact a local professional raccoon removal company. Raccoons generally go in the attic to have their babies. If a mother raccoon feels that she is in danger or that the baby raccoons are in danger, the mother raccoon can attack humans. It is not a common occurrence but it can happen. A raccoon will bite you if it feels like it is in danger, or the raccoon is cornered. The raccoon will become very aggressive. The raccoon may try to scratch you, claw at you and the raccoon can become dangerous. I advise my customers to stay away from raccoons if they are on your property or if the raccoon is in your attic. The next big question that people ask regarding the dangers of raccoons is: Do the raccoons come out in the day? and If a raccoon comes out in the day do the raccoons have rabies? Raccoons are nocturnal, which means they generally come out at night. There are times when raccoons will come out during the day also. Raccoons can carry the rabies virus but more commonly in the raccoon population, in an urban setting, is distemper. Distemper can make raccoons aggressive and rabies can cause raccoons to be dangerous. Distemper makes the raccoon look like it's crazy; raccoons can foam at the mouth! If a raccoon bites you, you can be exposed to rabies and raccoon distemper. If you have been bitten by a raccoon you need to contact your local CDC office immediately, they will need to test you for rabies and even administer the raccoon rabies shots. Rabies is a deadly disease that can take less than 3 weeks to kill you. Again, if you have been bitten by a raccoon and that raccoon has rabies and you do not get yourself tested immediately, the effects of rabies are in reversible and without treatment will lead to death.
